About Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps

Founded in 1965 Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps is one of the largest and most successful volunteer lifeguard clubs in the UK. Based on the South Coast in Bournemouth, UK we are entirely dependent on sponsorship and donations from the public to function.

Affiliated to The Royal Lifesaving Society, Surf Lifesaving Association of Great Britain and the British Canoe Union, we patrol the beach every weekend and bank holiday from May through to September providing lifeguard cover for Bournemouth's beaches.

We do not just operate down the beach, also providing lifeguard cover for weekly disabled persons swimming lessons at Stokewood Road Leisure Centre in Bournemouth. This is also the location where we conduct our pool training year round on Friday evenings.

The Corps consists of many volunteers from a wide variety of professional and social backgrounds, each having an interest in training and/or teaching lifeguarding skills while practically applying them in the form of a voluntary community service. We have an active social life which compliments the natural team environment that is essential in operating as a lifeguard.

Apart from our lifeguard service we provide to the general public during summer weekends we also provide event lifeguard cover for events such as open water distance swims and triathlon events within the south region, both in the sea and inland water, as well as the Bournemouth fireworks.
